Biography | Aside from a possible stay in Winnipeg, Katherine McDonald Jackson (1868-1927) spent her entire life in Brockville, Ontario. Although she grew up with only one other sibling surviving childhood, upon marrying widower Dr. William Frederick Jackson (1852-1935) in 1891, Katherine instantaneously inherited four step-children, to which she and William would add three daughters. It was to her father, however, that she dedicated her only book, SUMMER SONGS IN IDLENESSE (1903). Herbert Stone McDonald (1842-1921), whom Katherine referred to as "my nearest friend," was a county court judge in Brockville and a member of the Ontario legislature who likely encouraged his daughter's interest in literature and writing. Katherine died of a stroke in 1927 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, and was buried in Brockville. |
