Biographical sketch | Wallace Havelock Robb (b. 1888) spent most of his life living on a property known as Abbey Dawn, near Gananoque, Ontario, where he established a bird and game sanctuary. A poet and journalist, much of what he wrote was published as chapbooks by his own company, Abbey Dawn Press, though he did publish one title with Ryerson Press, THE QUILL AND THE CANDLE (1927).** Among Robb's interests were native culture, artifacts, and language. Robb studied the Mohawk language, was adopted by the Mohawks, and was made Great White Eagle and Pine Tree Chief of the Iroquois. Robb was also a great supporter of Canadian writers and corresponded with several. He was affectionately known as "The Poet of Abbey Dawn." Robb died in 1976. |
