Mai '68 Collection

The mai '68  poster collection in SFU Library Special Collections consists of posters and handbills created largely by the Atelier Populaire. The collection is important as a source of documentary, artistic and historical evidence of the student protests in France during May 1968. Each day during the uprising members of the Atelier Populaire would meet to discuss the day’s events and coordinate a message for the following day via posters, a form of wall newspaper.

A related collection, The May Events Archive documents this exciting historical moment with original leaflets, magazines, and newspapers from the period. Andrew Feenberg collected the documents at demonstrations and rallies during May 1968. The documents were gathered more or less at random and are sufficiently numerous to offer a good cross section of the thought and action of the period.
