Ivan Beky-Halasz gives his reasons for leaving his homeland of Hungary, and talks about his experiences during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Mr. Beky-Halasz then immigrated to Canada, and he talks about the first occupations he held in his new home. In Canada, Mr. Beky-Halasz became involved in activities within the Hungarian community. He also did some work compiling bibliographical finding aids, and with Hungarian TV. He gives his opinions on the strengths and weakness of community organizations and activities, including the Laszlo Nemeth Society and the TANU newspaper. Mr. Beky-Halasz talks about his work as a sculptor and poet. He compares the different waves of Hungarian immigrants to Canada, and also speculates on the future of these communities outside of Hungary.
Ivan Beky-Halasz donne les raisons qui l’ont poussé à quitter son pays natal, la Hongrie et parle de ses expériences durant la révolution hongroise de 1956. M. Beky-Halasz a alors émigré au Canada et il parle de ses premiers emplois dans ce nouveau pays. Au Canada, M. Beky-Halasz a participé à de nombreuses activités dans la communauté hongroise. Il a aussi participé à la compilation d’informations bibliographiques et a travaillé avec la télévision hongroise. Il partage ses opinions sur les forces et faiblesses des organisations et activités communautaires, entre autres celles de la Société Laszlo Nemeth et le journal TANU. M. Beky-Halasz parle de son travail en tant que sculpteur et poète. Il compare les différentes vagues d’immigrants hongrois au Canada et parle de l’avenir de ces communautés.
