The Musée d'Orsay began life at the end of the 19th c. as a super-elegant terminus for passenger rail traffic from Toulouse and Bordeaux into the heart of Paris. Like the Pont Alexandre III, the d'Orsay was a part of the awe-inspiring preparations for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. It is near the Louvre but on the opposite side of the Seine.
