BiographyA lifelong resident of Montreal, Grace Emily Murray Atkin (1881-1966) used the rugged scenery of Quebec as an appropriate setting for the psychological terrain she explored in her novels. For a time her writing took a commercial turn while she worked as a copy writer for the fashion firm of Frederick's of Montreal. Her writing falls into two distinct phases, the first flourishing in four titles issued between 1919 and 1923, followed by a last book in 1954. She also published a play, "Our Lady of the Moon: A Phantasy," in the CANADIAN MAGAZINE in December 1920. Atkin's extensive travels were likely facilitated by her family's financial security. While her mother seems to have died in childbirth, her father John remarried and flourished as sole owner of Atkin's Brewery in Montreal.
