George Bisztray describes his family background and the lives of his parents in Hungary. He explains the impact of World War I on the Hungarian people. Dr. Bisztray talks about the education he received in Hungary and the widespread propaganda in the schools when the Revolution erupted in 1956. Dr. Bisztray continued to pursue a university education with aspirations for an academic career. He emigrated from Hungary and lived in Norway for several years. After that Dr. Bisztray moved to the United States and taught Scandinavian Studies at the University of Chicago. He describes his marriage, and subsequent divorce. Dr. Bisztray then received an academic appointment in Edmonton, Alberta. He later moved to Ontario where he received a job teaching Hungarian Studies at the University of Toronto. Dr. Bisztray talks about the Hungarian community that existed in Toronto at that time. He describes the contact that people had with their homeland, and also compares the different waves of Hungarian immigration to Canada. Dr. Bisztray concludes by offering his views on the strengths and weaknesses of the community, and also its future.

Le docteur Bisztray décrit l’éducation qu’il a reçue en Hongrie et l’ampleur de la propagande dans les écoles lorsque la Révolution a éclaté en 1956. Le docteur Bisztray a fait ses études universitaires afin de poursuivre une carrière académique. Il a émigré de la Hongrie et a vécu quelques années en Norvège.
