Description: Jagar Singh Mahal came to Canada in 1925 at the age of 18. His father came to Canada in 1906 and after that he never went back to India. Jagar Singh did not go to school and he did farming in his village. His father used to send money at home. He came to Canada on his father's invitation.

Description: Darshan Singh Sangha came to Canada in 1937 at the age of 19. He was born in 1918. The family was poor. It was difficult even to pay school fees but he finished 10th grade. Many poor people from his village came to Canada in 1906 and became well off. His uncle was eager to get him to Canada so he got him a letter of admission from the university. On that basis he got his passport. His father sold his half of the land to raise 800 rupees for his fare to Canada.
