Her husband had come to live in Canada in 1914 and had been living there for eight years before he went back to Italy and met her. She was just nineteen years of age at the time and was betrothed to someone else, but Mr. Pennachietti asked her to be his wife and she accepted. They had a quick engagement and then she moved to Thorold, Ontario with him after they were married. She describes the boat ride to North America and her emotional departure. She had no friends or family in Thorold when they moved there, and there was no Italian church. They lived in a small house she describes as a 'shack' with no indoor plumbing or running water. She did the washing outdoors and worked on the farm picking grapes and helped to make wine. Once she had children she stopped working. Eventually, she wrote to the Pope to ask for an Italian priest in their parish and now there are a lot of Italians attending mass. She concludes the interview by describing some of the trips they take as a group and the important sense of community that now exists amongst the Italian people of Thorold, most evident on Feast days and during special celebrations.
