The workers eventually signed an agreement in August, after their union local amalgamated with the Teamsters. The company closed the Vancouver manufacturing plant permanently in December.

The Hospital Employees Union, the Health Sciences Association and the Operating Engineers were all respecting nurses' picket lines, subject to Essential Services provisions. HEU had issued 72-hour strike notice. The Social Credit

May Day marchers wend way through downtown Vancouver en route from Robson Square to Lumberman's Arch in Stanley Park. It was the second May Day march after the original marches were cancelled 21 years previously, and about 1,500 took part -- an increase of 500 following the previous year.
