Vancouver, B.C.; Reproduced from pencil drawings by a British Columbia artist; Copyright; June 28, '44; Dear Emil, Not far from here I watched a bronzed Indian balance in his canoe with a long herring rake. A herring rake has its teeth (fine, sharp ones) along the side of the pole. The Indian's sharp eyes saw about a hundred silver flashes in the blue-green water. With a thrust lightning quick, he jabbed the rake in the water. When he pulled it out the herring were wriggling all up and down. With love, Auntie Edna; Route 1, Box 66 Kirkland Washington U.S.A.
