B.C.'s registered nurses, members of the B.C. Nurses Union, struck several acute care hospitals across the province, the first time that they had done so. Health care union leaders accused the employers' agency, Health Labour Relations Association, with provoking the strike. Nurses were seeking to catch up after years of government imposed wage restraint. The Hospital Employees Union was conducting its own strike vote at the time.
