Health care workers march, rally at VGH [Vancouver General Hospital] during BCNU [British Columbia Nurses' Union] strike

Some 3,000 health care workers rallied outside Vancouver General Hospital to support striking B.C. Nurses Union members. The Hospital Employees Union, the Health Sciences Association and the Operating Engineers were all respecting nurses' picket lines, subject to Essential Services provisions. HEU had issued 72-hour strike notice. The Social Credit provisional government was criticized for funding shortfalls. BC ranked ninth out of ten provinces for level of health care funding.
