This task force report examines the status and prospects of the development and utilization of coal resources in China and presents research findings on China's status and prospects of coal exploitation and utilization, contraints of sustainable coal development and utilization and strategies and countermeasures for sustainable coal utilization. It provides recommendations on strategies and countermeasures for sustainable coal use.

This report has been written on the basis of the discussion of three background reports presented by the Chinese experts. Considerable attention was given during the discussion to financial guarantees and international cooperation.
