This document presents the Working Group's scientifically based approach to the provision of energy services, using modern technologies which are suitable to China's conditions. The Working Group recognizes the demanding geographic, financial and demographic realities, but also sees a great opportunity for a rapid advance by China which can avoid some of the environmental pitfalls experienced in many industrialized nations.

This report summarizes the third meeting of the third phase of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development including task force reports, discussion of the theme for theme 2006 AGM and new task forces, and discussion and approval of new recommendations.

Sustainable Rural Development will depend upon difficult institutional and fiscal reforms that will reshape government's role, and on creation of livelihoods in non-agricultural sectors. Environmental improvement can be accomplished through such reforms.

This paper reviews many of the current policies, and a range of views about needed changes for sustainable rural development.

This report looks at rural energy supply, demand, management and use in the backdrop of China's three rural issues - agriculture, countryside, and farmers, and has made recommendations to promote low-carbon and energy efficient agriculture, and other adaptations to climate change.
