This report provides an overview of the current status of China's environment and development with an assessment of scientific research, technology development and environmental education. It also provides initial recommendations of the Working Group and a proposed agenda for its own future work.

This document is the Summary Record of the Second Session of the Council was prepared for the Canadian Support Office by Ms. Alison Nankivell on the basis of more detailed notes recorded during the Council's Second Session. The Summary Record represent the Canadian Support Office's interpretation of the discussions and not necessarily the views of all the participants.

This report therefore deals with the opportunities for the widespread adoption of cleaner production in China, and the problems which must be overcome, particularly those relating to research, development and training. It is the second report of the CCICED Working Group on Scientific Research, Technological Development and Training, and draws heavily on the first report, which provided a general assessment of China's environmental sciences technology development and environmental education…

This report is the CCIED Working Group 3, who have reviewed the industrial water consumption in China, with particular attention to case studies of high water consumption industries such as iron and steel, coal power generations, and the chemical fertiliser industry, and has compared Chinese performance with experiences in other countries.
