This report is the Summary Record of the Third Annual Meeting of the Council was prepared for the Canadian Support Office by Mr. Patrick Kavanagh on the basis of more detailed notes recorded during the meeting. The Summary Record represents the Canadian Support Office's interpretation of the discussions and not necessarily the views of all the participants.

This report outlines the Working Group on Energy Strategies and Technologies formed part of their previous recommendations to CCICED, and which have received Council support.

On the basis of its sixth year of experience, the Council draws attention to some fundamental points which underlie its present and future work, including China's endorsement of the strategy of sustainable development and the importance of China in the planetary environment.

The third meeting of the Second Phase of the CCICED discussed the priority issues of environment and development for China during the Tenth Five-Year Period. It is hoped that the recommendations that come out of the Meeting will be helpful for the Chinese government in its formulation of the Tenth Five-Year Plan.
