Painted Leather Shirt
Painted sea lion hide armour from the Lord Bossom Collection. Sleeveless with fringe on right side, enclosure with toggles. Painted formline crest on front is either an orca or whale design. Denoted in the abstract depiction of offspring bearing, typical of marine mammals. Possibly of Tsimshian origin.
Chilkat Raven Shirt
Painted war shirt, with fringe on shoulders and flanks. Double headed raven design suggests this is a crest design to be overtly worn.
Eagle Crest Hat
Carved wooden hat, with eagle crest depicted at peak of hat. Shaped like conventional woven hats of the Northwest Coast. Painted with orca form line and abalone inlay in eyes. Donated by Mrs. George (Thea) Heye, 1922.
Helmet with Crests
An Elaborate war helmet of a bear, with transforming owl, orca and 4 ravens atop the wings of the owl. Part of the Dundass Collection. Collected in 1862 at Metlakatla but originally from Lax Kw'alaams.
Orca Club
Wooden club possibly used for fish rather than warfare. The club is carved in the form of an orca complete with head, dorsal and tail fins. The body has been streamlined into a handle, and face carving is at bludgeoning end of club.
