This task force aims at development of energy and resource conservative society and city, based on comprehensive understand of impacts of above energy solutions on urban energy consumption.

This is the first report of Phase Two of the Biodiversity Working Group (BWG). In line with the requirements of the secretariat of CCICED, BWG would make some changes to its Chinese and international membership, and make up its working plans for the coming years of Phase Two. This report also contains a summary of project activities of BWG.

The third meeting of the Second Phase of the CCICED discussed the priority issues of environment and development for China during the Tenth Five-Year Period. It is hoped that the recommendations that come out of the Meeting will be helpful for the Chinese government in its formulation of the Tenth Five-Year Plan.

As anticipated in the 1998 report of the working group, the financial situation has been very weak, and many of the planned activities for the year were not done. Nevertheless, the working group has achieved good progress in several areas and looks forward to an active programme for the rest of the second phase of CCICED. New sources of funding have been identified, and the group is confident that adequate funding will be realized to complete our 5-year programme.
