UFAWU [United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union] - WA protest over delay in compensation bill (Bill King)
Year: 1975
Description: With several fishermen drowned in the 1974 roe herring fishery, the UFAWU stepped up the campaign for inclusion of fishermen under the Workers' Compensation Act, from which they were excluded for coverage. The union's Women's Auxiliary confronted Labour Minister Bill King at a community meeting in Burnaby to demand that the government not delay in bringing fishermen under the Act as had been promised.
