This week on Writers and Company, Eleanor Wachtel speaks with one of the most inventive writers of the 21st century, Tom McCarthy. He has an ambitious new novel, titled with the initial 'C', in which he focuses on a period marked by new developments in telecommunications, modernism and war. The novel buzzes with connections and allusions, and even though the time is ostensibly the early 20th century, it still resonates today. 'C' was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize.
