Gorgeous beaches, koalas and a wonderfully warm climate. For many people, Australia is an ideal travel destination. But it's not all sunshine in Australia's past. Last year, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made a formal apology to the Stolen Generations- children of Indigenous descent who were forcibly removed from their families by government agencies. Rudd's words mark a milestone in an ongoing process of reconciliation, as Australians confront a dark side of their history. This week, Writers & Company kicks off a five-part series that explores the changing visions of Australia's past and future, through conversations with some of the country's most talented writers. Today, writer Alexis Wright discusses Carpentaria, a novel that explores Aboriginal life.
