Biographical or Historical Note
Born in Halifax, N.S. bissett says he has never graduated from anything. He has, however, hitch-hiked back and forth across Canada some 7 or 8 times, published a large volume of poetry (more than 50 books to date) and established himself as an important west coast editor. He has received a number of Canada Council grants to assist with these activities and now lives in Vancouver where he founded blewointmentpress. Frank Davey writes in "" From There to Here"": Bill's rejection of the conventional or ""straight"" world has been vigorous - expressed not only in lifestyle but in ruthless alterations to conventional syntax and spelling. His contempt for orthodox society has caused him to be ejected from cross-Canada trains, evicted by countless landlords, beaten, harrassed by police, and arrested and sentenced to prison. bissett is an iconaclast, mystic and full-time visionary. Frank Davey believes he has been more influenced by Blake than Marx, requiring ""Armageddon rather than revolution for his visions' fulfilment.""
