Terms Governing Use and Reproduction
Born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Fred Wah grew up in Nelson, B.C. He attended the University of British Columbia, did graduate work at the University of New Mexico, where he studied with Robert Creeley, and finished his M.A. at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Fred Wah is an important figure in the post-modern literary scene in Canada, both as teacher and writer. He has taught at the David Thompson University Centre, Selkirk College, and the University of Calgary. He has been writer-in-residence at Mount Royal College, the University of Manitoba, the University of Alberta, and Simon Fraser University. He has participated in poetry readings across Canada. He was, along with George Bowering and Frank Davey, one of the founders of the Tish group and little magazine in the early 1960's. More recently, in the late 80's, he and Davey began Canada's first on-line literary magazine, Swift Current. He has published some fifteen volumes of poetry and numerous articles in both creative and critical journals. His ""Waiting for Saskatchewan"" won the Governor General's Award for Poetry for 1985. He is married to UBC classmate Pauline Butling. They have two daughters, Jennifer and Erika.
