The action also coincided with the Supreme Court of Canada appeal by CUPW president Jean-Claude Parrot who had been sentenced in May to three months in jail and 18 months probation for refusing to order members to return to work as required under Bill C-8, the legislation that ordered CUPW back to work. The appeal was denied and Parrot was jailed for two months in 1980 for his defiance of Bill C-8.
