Knight Inlet, de Menil Collection

Located at the head of Knight Inlet and the mouth of the Klinaklini River, Dzawadi is a "Place of Origin" for the Awaʼetlala people and an ancient aboriginal resource site. The name Dzawadi means "place of Dzaxwan" or eulachon (oolichan), a small fish of the smelt family used to produce a valuable trade oil. The oil rendered from eulachon fish is an important food staple along the coast and a symbol of cultural wealth among many coastal First Nations.
