Description

Shoreworkers picket Canadian Fish plant in Vancouver as more than 9,000 strike across the province against wage freezes and concessions offered by the province's biggest fish employer, BC Packers. Members of the United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union beat back the worst of the concession demands after a one-week strike. Over the subsequent decades such rollback demands, coupled with the loss of protectionist measures from the pressure of a growing free trade push, would decimate the fishing industry and employment on sea and in the processing plants.
