Description
Unionists rally outside Lafarge Cement plant in Richmond. Members of the Marineworkers and Boilermakers union were striking against concession demands while the company was using scab labour imported from the United States. Demonstrators called for anti-scab legislation and the scrapping of Bill 19, the Industrial Relations Act, pressing the Opposition NDP to do this if they became government. They later did, and repealed Bill 19 and created the anti-scab legislation, which has remained.
