Description

Some 10,000 members of the B.C. Government Employees Union, having booked off work for the day, march to the provincial Legislature grounds for a protest over the Social Credit government's pension legislation, Bill 29, that would put limits on government contributions and indexing of public sector workers' pensions. The rally, together with an earlier rally of 4,000 at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver, capped a campaign that was ultimately successful in compelling the government to make changes to the legislation. Photo shows marchers in downtown streets heading to the Legislature. BCGEU president Norman Richards is at right (in suit and tie).
