Scope and contents
The John Buchan Fonds is extensive, much of it consisting of correspondence (more than 13 boxes). It is arranged in six series: correspondence, speeches, writings, press clippings, miscellaneous material, and posthumous material. The extent and nature of publishing-related material has not been determined, but it is reasonable to expect correspondence exists with Buchan's publishers, including Musson, Copp, Clark, Hodder, T. Nelson and Sons, and Longmans, Green. >

Biographical sketch
John Buchan, born in Scotland in 1875, was the first Baron Tweedsmuir, an author, and governor general of Canada. His writings are primarily historical in nature, much of it dealing with the Great War. They include 24 volumes of the "Nelson Library" series and a trilogy, THE THIRTY-NINE STEPS (1915), GREENMANTLE (1916), and MR. STANDFAST (1919). Buchan also wrote poetry, some relating to the war, such as POEMS: SCOTS AND ENGLISH (1917). John Buchan died in Montreal in 1940.
