The R.G. Trotter Papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, notes for books, articles, book reviews, and files related to conferences, lectures, and clippings. Included is incoming and outgoing correspondence with the Macmillan Company of Canada, dating from 1928 to 1933; about half of these letters are from 1932, and concern the publication of THE BRITISH EMPIRE-COMMONWEALTH, A STUDY IN POLITICAL EVOLUTION (1932). Biographical sketch
Reginald George Trotter was born in Woodstock, Ontario, in 1888. He earned his BA at Yale and his MA and PhD at Harvard. Trotter taught at Stanford University until 1924. He was then a Professor of Canadian and Colonial history at Queen's University from 1924 to 1951.** Among Trotter's published works are CANADIAN FEDERATION: ITS ORIGIN AND ACHIEVEMENT, A STUDY IN NATION BUILDING (Dent, 1924), CANADIAN HISTORY: A SYLLABUS AND GUIDE TO READING (Macmillan, 1926) and NORTH AMERICA AND THE WAR: A CANADIAN VIEW (Oxford University Press, 1940).
