Description

October/ The Autumn Of '84 and A New Season Of Music at The Pump/ Oct. 1 - 3 -- Glass Aunts -- This 4-piece Edmonton band is of the elite of the talent recently coming out of Alberta. Guitarist BRENT McNABB performed for several years with THE MODELS, and with ONE HORSE BLUE. McNABB, as a much-in-demand session-man, has played on over 20 albums. Bassist FRANK JESKIW was the original lead volcalist for PRETTY ROUGH, and both McNABB & JESKIW worked with SLASH AND THE BLEEDING HEARTS. And it's JESKIW &McNABB who write the GLASS AUNTS' melodic, silver toned ROCK that is at onces danceable and memorable. This is the band's first sojourn to The Coast, and this gig at The Pump is their last in B.C. before heading home./ Oct. 4 - 6 -- JIM BRYNES -- BLUES-MASTER Jim Brynes and his band return to The Pump after a lengthy hiatus. As always, Brynes has been highly visible in the Vancouver music scene. A highlight this past March was his award for BEST CLUB ACT at the CARAS TRIBUTE TO WEST COAST MUSIC, a long overdue kudo. JIM BRYNES, Thur. to Sat./ Oct. 8 -- Thanksgiving and The Pump is CLOSED./ Oct. 9 -- JERRY DOUCETTE -- "THE DOUCE IS LOOSE" ...at The Pump for ONE NIGHT of spirited, electric rock 'n' roll! Playing to packed houses at their all-too-few venues, Jerry Doucette is Vancouver's rocker, ad with this powerhouse band behind him, THE DOUCE WILL PLAY, MAMA! VOX PHANTOM opens./ Oct. 10 - 13 -- VOX PHANTOM -- A brand new band comprised of guitarist RANDY MURRAY (ex-DAVID RAVEN and SENSIBLE SHOES); bassist DAVE REIMER (ex-HEADPINS touring band and THE RACE); and drummer MIKE "SCHROEDER" SCHMIDT (PACHEENA and ex-VICIOUS RUMOUR). These three have formed VOX PHANTOM to re-create many of the great rock 'n' roll hits of the mid to late 60's, as well as covering some of the best material the current market has to offer. In short, DANCE-ORIENTED POP MUSIC!/ Oct. 15 - 16 -- T.B.A./ Oct. 17 -- THE GLADIATORS -- This legendary JAMAICAN REGGAE band, led by lead singer/songwriter ALBERT GRIFFITHS, have been recording since '66, and were among the first groups whose music was characterized by the term 'reggae'. The Pump is the ONLY VANCOUVER stop on their current North American tour. Their impressive discography (13 ALBUMS & over 30 SINGLES) has reinforced THE GLADIATORS' touring and helped make this band a top draw. REGGAE, MON! "...concise melodies, stately tempos and straightforward messages...similar to the late Bob Marley's ecstatic presence." NEW YORK TIMES - MAY '84/ Oct. 18 - 20 -- MOJO -- ...all the weekend! Featuring the well-known JOANIE BYE on lead vocals, MOJO's four talented players perform some of the best renditions of '60's POP, RHYTHM & BLUES, and MOTOWN. If dancing is your forte, then this is the band for you!/ Oct. 22 - 24 -- THE CHEFS -- Contemporary ROCK and RHYTHM & BLUES, featuring WALLY WATSON and RICK BAKE of DOUG & THE SLUGS. Cookin' with THE CHEFS!/ Oct. 25 - 27 -- ART BERGMAN -- "THE BERG IS BACK!" ...and the accompanying brouhaha is sure than justified. BERGMAN's punk-rock history has evolved into ROCK more accessible and -- dare it be said -- commercial, but still with the BERGMAN badge of 'slightly obscure'. The audiences are ecstatic, his peers are duly impressed, the critics laud him with written praise. His 4-piece band's collective credits include MELODY PIMPS, PSYCHIC HEALERS, and Calgary's THE VERDICTS. "Music with intelligence, passion, and the guys to show it all." Ellie O'Day - CFMI/GEORGIE STRAIGHT - JUNE '84/ Oct. 29 - Nov. 3 -- DAVID RAVEN -- CHARISMATIC...the man, the music, the band. Featuring LORI PAUL on vocals and DAVE WOODWARD on sax, DAVID RAVEN's 6-piece band infuses the entire repertoire with a fervor not often seen in a club act. From David's own compositions to TINA TURNER's latest, there is no want of energy or ability./ PSSS-SST! The Pump is featuring FASHION SHOWS beginning Oct. 24.
