Canadian Union of Public Employees Union Local 686 members picket at radio station CKLG, after launching strike action in what was considered to be a breakthrough certification in radio broadcasting. The owner, Moffat Communications, hired scabs and made use of ex parte injunctions to limit picketing (under the Canada Labour Code) in an effort to block a first contract.

UFAWU [United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union] sail-in off Brockton Point - against salmon treaty

Event aimed at stopping Canada-US salmon treaty under terms currently proposed by federal government, brought together numerous groups in the fishing industry, demonstrating the breadth of opposition. Those taking part included many who were not traditional allies, including UFAWU, Native Brotherhood of BC, Vessel Owners Association, Pacific Trollers Association and the Prince Rupert Fishermen's Co-op.

Member of Local 500 of International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union (Canadian Area) pickets outside the B.C. Maritime Employers Association office on Vancouver's waterfront as union launches strike action in an effort to maintain container loading and unloading work for ILWU members. Longshoremen were forced back to work three weeks later by federal legislation that extended the existing contract for two years and provided for binding arbitration in the event of a further breakdown in bargaining.
