Description

Murphy Stanley making a bentwood box. The body of a bentwood box is steamed and formed using a single piece of Western Red Cedar. It is a practice unique to the Northwest Coast of North America. Traditional uses of the boxes are varied and include storage of food goods, clothing and burial. Many were not decorated while others were decorated elaborately.
